Jane Hileman
Jane Hileman is the founder, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of American Reading Company. She currently serves as a member of the influential National Assessment of Educational Progress (NEAP, America’s Report Card) Steering Committee. After a distinguished 28-year career as an inner-city educator, University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education adjunct professor, and associate director of PHILADELPHIA READS, Ms. Hileman leads ARC as CEO and grows the company’s size commensurate with its vision: all children reading on or above grade level. Ms. Hileman has been the recipient of many awards including the 2006 Ernst & Young Socially Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year and was lauded as one of the 50 Best Women in Business (2005 Eastern PA Business Journal). In addition, American Reading Company was included in Inc. magazine as one of America’s 500 Fastest-Growing Private Companies. Ms. Hileman is a University of Pennsylvania graduate (SCL) and holds a master’s in science from the University’s School of Education.
Richard Sarnoff
Richard Sarnoff serves concurrently as Co-Chairman of Bertelsmann, Inc., the United States holding company of Bertelsmann AG, Europe’s largest media company, and President of Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI). A longstanding senior executive in Bertelsmann’s U.S. book publishing operations, Richard played a key role in the Random House acquisition in 1998, and subsequently served as its EVP and CFO. In the ensuing years, he was additionally responsible for Random House’s New Media and Corporate Development activities, and created and oversaw Random House Ventures. In recent years, Richard has established and led Bertelsmann’s digital media investing arm, with offices in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, and built an active portfolio of more than 15 companies.
From 2006 to 2009, Richard served as Chairman of the Association of American Publishers, and in that role he was a key architect and lead negotiator of the landmark Google settlement. Richard holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard University.
Chris Gabrieli
Chris is an entrepreneur across the fields of business, nonprofits, and public policy. Following the success of GMIS, the healthcare software company he co-founded, Chris joined Bessemer Venture Partners. Throughout his 22 years as a partner with Bessemer, Chris has worked to help other entrepreneurs start and grow their companies. Bessemer has invested over $1 billion in start-up high-tech and biotechnology companies, helping to create more than 100,000 new jobs. In addition to his efforts at Bessemer, Chris is also a Managing Partner of Ironwood Equity Fund, a $70 million venture capital firm focused on investing in “double bottom line” companies that deliver both financial and social returns.
Chris is a committed participant in the civic life of Boston and Massachusetts. He currently serves as Chairman of Massachusetts 2020 and is the Chairman of the National Center on Time & Learning. Chris is a graduate of Harvard University and attended the Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons.
Peter Nalle
Peter has a long record of senior management in the Publishing industry, having served as Senior Vice President of the McGraw-Hill Book Company; President and CEO of J.B. Lippincott, the medical publishing subsidiary of Harper-Collins; President of the Professional Information Services Group at Simon & Schuster; and COO of Grolier, Inc., a U.S. publishing and marketing subsidiary of Matra-Hachette. Since 1996, he has worked in the Philadelphia area as a private investor/advisor and owner/operator of small publishing and information service companies.
Peter is a former member of the Information Industry Association (IIA), the Association of American Publishers, and the Board of Directors of the American Medical Publishers Association and of the AAP. He has been active in Philadelphia as a Founder and Board Member of both the Friends of Schuylkill River Park and the Schuylkill River Development Council. Peter is a graduate of Brown University.
Ann Field
Ann Thornton Field is a Member of Cozen O’Connor and Chair of the General Litigation Department. Ann’s practice is focused on general litigation, aviation, and products liability matters. She has been lead counsel for numerous matters in state and federal courts throughout the United States. Ann’s litigation practice includes representation of corporations in contract litigation both as plaintiff and defense counsel. Her aviation practice has covered the full scope of the aviation industry, including aviation insurers, aircraft and component part manufacturers, fixed base operators, airlines, municipal airport owners and operators, industrial aircraft owners, and the estates of persons injured in aircraft accidents.
Ann received her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Samford University and earned her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.
