Thirty minutes a day guarantees at least 100 hours of reading practice per year

Reading at School

A child’s volume of reading is the single best predictor of test score performance and success in schools (1).

Through the 100 Book Challenge system, teachers incorporate Independent Reading into daily teaching plans for at least 30-minutes per day. This guarantees a minimum of 100 hours of independent reading for every student, every year, not including the Reading at Home component of 100 Book Challenge.

Through the staff development component of 100 Book Challenge, teachers broaden existing skills and gain new skills to maximize effectiveness to:

Actively coach the avid reader lifestyle
Utilize Reader's Workshops on a daily basis to interconnect instruction with independent practice
Conduct one-on-one conferences with students, keeping careful assessment records.
Monitor progress and regularly report key metrics, or indicators, of student reading success
