American Benchmarks for Excellence Leveling Guidelines provides information and support for teachers who are interested in learning to level the books in their classroom libraries.
Leveling books requires thoughtful consideration of what a reader needs to know and be able to do at each level. It trains teachers to notice the supports and roadblocks provided by text, and it is one of the best ways to learn how to teach reading.
