Curriculum Developer

American Reading Company is seeking an intelligent, detail-oriented individual who is passionate about education to be a member of our curriculum design team. This is a great fit for an experienced educator with curriculum writing experience who is well-versed in the thinking behind the Common Core Standards and is familiar with the Backward Design model of curriculum development. Experience writing standards-based language arts, social studies, or science curriculum is required. Experience successfully implementing Action 100, 100 Book Challenge or Research Labs programs is preferable. A high level of proficiency in written Spanish, although not required, is highly desirable for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with curriculum design team to create new curriculum materials to support ARC programs
  • Revising, editing, formatting, and proof-reading existing ARC curriculum documents
  • Collaborating with other departments and customers on custom design projects

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in education
  • Strong writing skills
  • Successful curriculum writing experience with sample units available to show
  • Ability to thoroughly proofread, edit, and revise content
  • Multitasking and independent management of deadlines are a must
  • Flexibility and ability to adjust priorities when necessary
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors
  • Computer literacy, with willingness to learn new applications

  • Adobe InDesign experience is preferred, but not required.

Bilingual Administrative Assistant

American Reading Company is seeking a friendly, self-motivated, optimistic, personable and outgoing Administrative Assistant to join our company and become an integral member of our team for a 9:00 am – 6:00 pm shift, Monday through Friday. The ideal candidate will be proficient in speaking, reading, writing and understanding both English and Spanish languages. Responsibilities:

  • Assist Executive Management team with scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements, copying and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Assist Receptionist/ Office Manager with greeting visitors, handling incoming calls in a pleasant and friendly manner and performing general administrative duties. Provide substitute coverage for reception area.
  • Perform clerical and administrative functions such as drafting correspondence, data entry, organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files, scheduling conference calls, and providing information to callers.
  • Filing for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable departments.
  • Monitor the copier room and kitchens for cleanliness and supply usage.
  • Maintain office machinery; including filling fax machines and copiers with paper, adding toner, and scheduling maintenance when needed.
  • Attend daily and weekly meetings as required.
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related functions as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated experience in similar administrative position.
  • Prior experience answering a 5 line phone system recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with new customers and secure contracts with new customers that achieve assigned sales quotas and targets.
  • Drive the entire sales cycle from initial customer engagement to closed sales, and in some cases through delivery and implementation.
  • Prospect for potential customers using various direct methods such as calling and face to face meetings, and indirect methods such as networking and special events.
  • Qualify prospects against company criteria for ideal customers and sales.
  • Consult with prospect about business challenges and requirements, as well as the range of options and benefits of each.

Qualifications

Spanish-English Translator/Copy-editor

Are you an experienced translator with a background in K-12 education, or a bilingual educator with experience adapting and translating curricular and educational materials into Spanish?   • Collaborate with the development and design teams to translate, revise, edit, and proofread ARC's Spanish curriculum products
  • Work closely with writers to understand their intended meaning and to align content and format with in-house standards
  • Identify inconsistencies in language or format across materials and assist in correcting them
  • Collaborate with other departments and customers on custom design projects

Qualifications:

  • Native-level fluency in Spanish and English
  • Strong academic reading and writing skills in Spanish
  • Graduate degree in education OR undergraduate degree in linguistics, Spanish, and translation
  • Ability to take constructive feedback and rework something until it is the best it can be
  • Flexibility and positive attitude toward frequent adjustments in priorities
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Avid reader
