SpaceSpace

This collection of mostly nonfiction texts is out of this world. Covering the solar system, stars, planets, black holes, quasars, and the history of human space exploration, your students will LOVE reading about outer space. Watch your students’ proficiency in space science standards take off. This collection makes a terrific pairing with our Science Fiction collection. Have your students write their own science fiction using the facts from this collection.

RESEARCH LABS®

RESEARCH LABS® is a backwards design model that allows teachers to differentiate instruction while teaching grade level content standards to all students. Starting with big ideas/concepts students need to grasp in order to master state standards, we backmap to create a project-based learning framework through which students read, write, engage in accountable talk, and produce their own books on independent research topics.

Teach Research and One Common Core Writing Genre

Each student engages in a carefully scaffolded, extended research project, taking a final written product in the selected genre through the entire writing process from note-making to publication.

Unit of Study

A carefully defined research focus and a set of Research Questions scaffold student research while providing the content architecture for the Unit. These questions align with key concepts in the content of the Unit, ensuring all students learn the grade-level content required of state standards and/or the NGSS.

Grade Level Complex Text

The teacher uses a class set of a Core Text (a Core Text [book] or Exemplar Pack of short texts) and 5 Read Aloud Anchor titles to teach key concepts at the heart of each Research Question.

Leveled Texts for Differentiated Instruction

Students use the Thematic Leveled Research Library to research their individual topics using the best informational books drawn from more than 250 publishers.
