This popular collection includes books about land animals from elephants to snakes to hummingbirds. Help your students develop the vocabulary and background knowledge in life sciences central to this theme (e.g., food chain, ecosystems, life cycle, habitats). Your students will be wild about this collection and develop a ferocious appetite for learning more about our endangered friends in the animal world.

RESEARCH LABS®

RESEARCH LABS® is a backwards design model that allows teachers to differentiate instruction while teaching grade level content standards to all students. Starting with big ideas/concepts students need to grasp in order to master state standards, we backmap to create a project-based learning framework through which students read, write, engage in accountable talk, and produce their own books on independent research topics.

Teach Research and One Common Core Writing Genre

Each student engages in a carefully scaffolded, extended research project, taking a final written product in the selected genre through the entire writing process from note-making to publication.

Unit of Study

A carefully defined research focus and a set of Research Questions scaffold student research while providing the content architecture for the Unit. These questions align with key concepts in the content of the Unit, ensuring all students learn the grade-level content required of state standards and/or the NGSS.

Above Level Read Alouds

The teacher uses 30 Read Aloud titles to teach key concepts at the heart of each Research Question while introducing students to a wide variety of academic language.
