The Integrated Instructional Framework supports students in the development of reading, writing, listening, and speaking standards through literary analysis, literary discourse, and grade-level guided and individual instruction. This session focuses on the grade-level demands and rigor required by the CCSS.

The CCSS formative assessment framework supports teachers in determining the highest level of text complexity that students can read independently. Participants will practice articulating the stages of reading acquisition via videos of students reading authentic texts.

Independent Reading Levels and Formative Assessment Framework in Action

After learning how the CCSS ARC Leveling Framework is structured, participants will put their knowledge into action. Each participant will be guided through a modeled process that includes leveling students in pairs, followed by independent practice leveling students, and culminating in an inter-rater reliability activity.

  • Establish a baseline Independent Reading Level for every student
